Lenten Devotion: Sent

Read John 20:19-23

On Wednesday a group of 20+ of us watched a video in which the guest speaker (Dr. Ed Stetzer) described us as being sent. As Christians we are sent by Christ on a lifelong mission; on a mission every day. Jesus said, As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.

As a Christian do you see yourself as one who has been sent by Christ? Or do you feel you have arrived and there is nothing for you to do except eat, drink and be merry?

Jesus has given us his peace; that peace with God that has been won for us through the life, death and resurrection of Christ. It is in that relationship of peace that the Holy Spirit stirs us to say “Yes” to Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and to follow him, to bey him, to go where he sends us.

Where have you been sent as a disciple of Jesus? Is it to all those places you have gone to over the last few days? Name some of them.

To whom have you been sent? Who are some of the people you meet regularly (family, friends, neighbours, co-workers…)? Make a list.

And what are you called to do among them?

Jesus said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” You are not alone and you have something very important the Lord has given you to share with others: the forgiveness of Christ that brings peace.

So go in peace and serve the Lord today where you are sent.
