Lenten Devotion: Together

Image result for life togetherNow you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. – 1 Corinthians 12:27

On Wednesday I invited our discipleship study group to stand in a circle, hold hands and say the following words:

We are the body of Christ.
I am a member.
You are a member.
We are the body of Christ.

You are not alone. God does not leave you alone in your struggles to live up to being created in his image. He gave you his example, his Spirit, his Word of forgiveness and through the waters of baptism he has placed you into his body, the Church. You are not alone.

As the church, we are not perfect people, only forgiven. Together we struggle against sin, death and the power of the devil in our personal lives and in the world around us. When we gather as the church we bring our imperfections before the perfection of Christ that we might be forgiven and practice forgiveness. That’s why I’m a member of the body of Christ. That’s why you are a member also.

As we gather together we are reminded that God has does done everything but stand for us. And where it counts most, he has done even that, standing as a substitute for the life each of us owes him.

This Sunday plan to gather together with God’s people who stand before the cross, celebrating the gift of life together with God.
